Sunstar//chapter oo1In the beginning, we talked fairly little. Only knowing each other through school. To her, I was simply Keira Natsuki of Tokyo, Japan; an immigrant to America staying with my lonely grandmother. To me, she was only Sayuri Sakamoto of New York, America with family and friends, and just that.
I feel this may all be slightly difficult for you, the reader, to understand, so let me start again.
When I was only a girl, a child of four years of age; my father left me and my sorrowful mother. We lived day by day with no light in our eyes, and hope drifting from our broken hearts. Often at night, it would be my mother and I hugging tightly, holding back tears we always wished to let go. Soon, times changed, but for me and my life, events were changing for the worst.
My mother told me one day, when I'd just turned thirteen, she'd be going out to buy a cake. Me, being too naive to even think she would leave me, said a cheerful "good bye Mother!", but...once she left that day, she never returned. Now there was no need for running away, for my own mother had ran from me.
Tokyo is a fairly large place to be in Japan. I just happened to be standing helplessly lost, all in the midst of it's mid-afternoon rush hours, morning full of bustling businessmen and women, and night air filled with the laugh of drunken men at local bars, drinking sake as if it were water to a thirsty camel. I needed a escape.
